Almost Two Presidential Assassinations Took Place in November of 1963

So, this was a story that I never had heard before: just hours after JFK was assassinated, LBJ himself was almost shot to death by his own secret service agent.

How did this happen? Well, it was the result of a misunderstanding, really. It's amazing to think that this could have been yet another fatal episode involving a President, and mere hours after JFK had been killed.

Can you imagine what the reaction across the nation, and indeed across the world, would have been? At that point, the assumption surely would have been that there was an enormous conspiracy against the United States government, with very high-powered figures having infiltrated and caused enormous damage. That would have been an episode unlike any other in history (probably world history, and certainly modern world history).

That would have been something that would have tested the very foundation of democracy.

It is interesting to speculate, although obviously, it did not happen. But here is an article that delves into the matter a little bit more deeply, and illustrates just how close that unthinkable, and incredibly coincidental, scenario came to coming true:
