House Votes: Allows Dumping Of Coal Mining Waste Into Streams

This is just disgraceful!

Just weeks after the drinking and washing water for 300,000 West Virginians was contaminated, the House of Representatives in Washington votes 229-192 to allow dumping of coal mining waste into streams and waterways.

This was an old rule that was in effect during the years of George W. Bush, but was found illegal by a court. This House vote was an attempt to overturn the US District Court in Washington's decision in February.

House Majority Speaker John Boehner is calling this part of the effort to stop the "war on coal", as he puts it.

The bill would obviously still need to go through the Senate. Even if it did pass, it is unlikely that President Obama would sign it into law.

Let's hope this bill dies the death that it so obviously deserves.
