Why Frozen Great Lakes Waters This Late in Year Is a Bad Sign

I am trying to make most of my blog entries around this time of the year particularly relevant to Earth Day themes, with the emphasis, whenever possible, on either information about some of what our actions are doing in terms of climate change, or on themes related to environmental issues.

This one was definitely relevant, if scary.

Turns out the Great Lakes are apparently still frozen. Mind you, I know it has been a particularly cold winter, particularly in the Great Lakes regions. But still, the fact that they are still frozen by mid-April is a telling sign - and not a very good one, either.
