Having already earlier today posted a blog about the 2006 World Cup Final, and the most famous and memorable moment in it, I have the rather sad task of mentioning some more bad news for the French side, concerning someone who featured prominently in that 2006 run that France enjoyed.
This piece of really bad news just came for France yesterday - one of the stand out performers for the World Cup Finalist team of 2006 is completely out for this tournament.
Franck Ribery will not be playing at all during this tournament, because he was unable to fully recover from an earlier back injury.
So, it looks like France will have to do not only with one less familiar face, but one less very talented player through a tournament that features the very best players in the game from around the globe!
Hopefully, it will not cripple them, or their chances, too much! Time will tell!
