Getting People To Judge Their Own Narcissism Scale

I ran into this article a few weeks ago, but never quite got around to publishing it. Yes, I know, just starting a blog entry without completing it, let alone failing to publish it, is a very bad habit of mine.

But this one is seeing the light of day, because it is a very interesting article that reveals how apparently easy it is to identify narcissistic people.

You would think that people would try to hide this rather unsavory self-obsession, but you would be wrong.

Apparently, narcissistic people do not see anything wrong with their own narcissism. In fact, they may even view it as a good thing!

And let's be frank: narcissism is more generally accepted in today's society that perhaps ever before. That may be changing, with an economy that really does not seem to be helping out the poor, and with many people sliding into poverty.

However, with modern technology allowing people to focus more exclusively on their own interests, and with people constantly on their cell phones, never taking a break from talking or texting (too often, not even while they are driving!) and taking countless selfies and such, it sometimes seems that modern technology, far from improving our collective standard of living, focuses more exclusively on catering to our vanities. Or, maybe we just live in such a decadent era that too often, that is what great modern technological innovations are used for.

Or, perhaps, modern technology can be both good and bad, depending on how it us used, and to what degree it is used for those purposes.

In any case, yes, it is apparently much easier to identify narcissistic people than one might expect, by asking one simple question, word for word (yes, word for word, even though the question seems maybe a little strangely worded - and you have to include the note!). Here is the question:

To what extent do you agree with this statement: “I am a narcissist.” (Note: The word “narcissist” means egotistical, self-focused, and vain.)

Anyone is particular that you would be interested to place this question to?

I can definitely think of a couple of people just off the top of my head that I would want to ask (although, they probably would know that I'm up to something)!
