Why We Allow Big Pharma to Rip Us Off by Robert Reich, October 6, 2014

For many, many years now, I have felt that the failure of the United States to provide it's people with some real form of universal affordable healthcare was a huge source of embarrassment for the nation, and that it was Americans themselves that did not seem to realize just how big of a deal this is!

Think about it: of all of the industrialized nations in the world, the richest, most powerful nation among them has proven incapable of setting their citizens up with something like this! And so, people continue to lose their homes, lose their jobs, lose pretty much everything, because they cannot afford the absurdly high medical expenses.

There are numerous reasons why medical expenses are so high, and the fact that the US government  has, so far, adamantly refused to install some kind of system of price control, as they do in all other industrialized nations of the world, is obviously part of the reason. The prices also get jacked up because of price gauging, as well as because of frivolous lawsuits, in this, the culture of always looking for the big payday, however this may ultimately happen.
