Monday Night Football Review & Thanksgiving Day Game Previews

Buffalo Bills 38, NY Jets 3 - So, the Jets were crushed up in Detroit, by the Buffalo Bills. You knew that they were not going to repeat their success against Pittsburgh, right? The Bills just kept dominating, leaving no doubt, despite the problems, and the lack of proper preparation that was not their fault. With the win, the Bills complete a season sweep of the Jets, and are now once again tied with the Miami Dolphins for second place in the AFC East with a 6-5 record. The Jets still only have those two wins.

Baltimore Ravens 34, New Orleans Saints 27 - I guess I have to rethink my notions that New Orleans is one of the toughest places to play in the NFL, at least this season. The Saints did what they had never done before, losing each of their three consecutive game home stand, thus assuring that the Saints and Falcons are tied atop the NFC South with an astoundingly bad 4-7 record. As of right now, if this season ended right now, there would be at least one 4-7 team that qualifies for the playoffs, while there would also be more than one 7-4 team that would miss the playoffs. Remember, all four division winners automatically qualify for the postseason, and get home games, to boot. That means that the second place team between the Cowboys and Eagles (both at 8-3) would be fighting for their playoff lives, as would the second place teams in the NFC North (Seahawks and 49ers both at 7-4), and the 7-4 Lions (trailing the 8-3 Packers) will be facing potential elimination, despite strong records. This season may see a record losing percentage by a playoff team, if this keeps up. If that happens, is it time perhaps to reassess the way that playoff qualification works?

Thanksgiving Predictions:

Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions - The Lions have an impressive 7-4 record, while the Bears have a disappointing 5-6 record. But the Bears have won their last two games and seem to be on the rise, while the Lions dropped their last two games, and seem to be on a bit of a decline. Do the Bears have a chance to pull it off. Sure they do. But they won't, because the Lions are the better team, and they have home field advantage. My pick: Lions

Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys - I am going to go out on a limb here, and suggest the improbable: the Eagles are the better team, despite the quarterback situation right now, and they will find a way to stun the Cowboys and take a commanding lead for first in the NFC East. My pick: Eagles

Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers - The third of a solid trio of games this Thanksgiving, and the second of two really big showdowns with huge playoff implications. The Seahawks and 49ers are both clinging to their playoff lives. San Francisco has not managed to win a big game at Seattle yet, but I do not believe that the Seahawks have managed a win in San Francisco, either. But this is do or die, and I have to go with my gut instinct on who I feel is the better team. Despite their problems so far, Seattle still is it. My pick: Seahawks
