Billy Corgan Says He And Kurt Cobain Were Greatest Songwriters Of The 90’s, Condemns Vedder

You know, Billy Corgan has seemed very strange in recent years.

He said that he was the source of inspiration for all of Courtney Love's songs, and then did something to really piss off Soundgarden's Chris Cornell.

Now, he's at it again.

He says that he and Kurt Cobain were the top two songwriters if the nineties, and that there was a rivalry between them. Everyone else was a distant third. he particularly also took aim at Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, and said that Vedder always makes things about him.

Not sure where all of this is coming from. I will say that it seems that, for some bands, they have grown up and focused on some of the most important things going on in the world, including (perhaps even especially) Vedder. You put the baggage of when you were at the height of your popularity behind you, and focus on the world around you, and try and make a statement around that which will, hopefully, resonate with people.

In different ways, many of the songwriters from the nineties have done exactly that. if Kurt Cobain were alive today, I suspect that he, too, would do that.

By contrast, it seems that Corgan is still fighting battles from decades ago, and has not gotten over his own ego trip, which is sad, frankly. To me, it also kind of undermines his music, although I am sure it will still be enjoyable to listen to.
