Hammill Predicted He Would Play Similar Role to Obi-Wan in Future

Excitement is building over the eagerly anticipated new installment of Star Wars.

Honestly, I cannot remember so much build up well over a year before a movie is even set for release, with little teasers and other "leaks" being regularly revealed, the way that this seventh edition to the Star Wars saga is being released.

Also, I must say, that a lot of people seem to be speaking very ill of George Lucas. While I understand, and even sympathize, with some of the accusations that he has become a little too interested in money and shamelessly pursuing profits by any means necessary, and that the last trilogy, which was under his control, basically did not measure up to the first trilogy.

Still, let us remember that it was this man who brought us the Star Wars saga that we all enjoy so much to begin with! Despite some of his faults, the brilliance of this creation, as well as his role in other important films, such as Indiana Jones, should be appreciated, let we forget.

And as it turns out, it was perhaps Lucas who had predicted, a long time ago in a world that feels far, far away nowadays, that there would be prequels and sequels to the original trilogies.

Mark Hammill was interviewed shortly after the 1983 film, Return of the Jedi, and he basically reveals that Lucas had been planning all along to make a sequel featuring a much older Luke Skywalker, as well as Princess Leia and Han Solo.

You know, the original cast?

Indeed, they are back, and making the new movies. From what I gather, filming is going well, and expectations are very high. Many expect that this film, and the trilogy that is expected, will return to the spirit of the original trilogy, especially since it does feature so many of the original cast, including the "big three" of Hammill, Fischer, and, of course, Ford.

Here is the interview where Hammill reveals that this is what Lucas predicted all along, although he surely could not have known that he himself would be relegated to the sidelines.
