The Giants are pretty terrible this season. They played well in winning against the Titans at Tennessee yesterday, but had not won in over two months prior to that.
Hard to believe that they were the Super Bowl champions three seasons ago!
But there were better times for the franchise long ago, counting in the decades.
When I was in junior high school, I was thrilled when the Giants, who had been getting better each season for years, finally broke through and won Super Bowl XXI. It was an amazing win, and I was on Cloud 9 for a long time after that one!
So, as I have been looking at videos recently, it seemed appropriate to share some videos from those brighter days for the Giants:

The Giants followed the Super Bowl XXI victory by going 6-9 in 1987, although it is worth noting that that was a strike shortened season, and three of those losses were by replacement players during the strike. In 1988, the Giants reached respectability again, and were 10-5 and about to win the NFC East, when they were shocked by the Jets in the regular season finale, a loss that eliminated them from the playoffs. In 1989, New York was 12-4, winning the division and reaching the number two seed, but lost immediately to the Rams in the playoffs. But in 1990, they started off 10-0, finished the season 13-3, and again, were the second seed in the playoffs. Some thought that they were ripe to be eliminated early, but they manhandled the Chicago Bears, 31-3, in the home game, earning a spot in the NFC Championship Game at San Francisco against the defending champions, the 49ers. New York failed to score a touchdown, but won anyway on the final play when Matt Bahr's fifth converted field goal sailed through the uprights on the final play, sending the Giants to the Super Bowl, which they ultimately won (barely) against the favored Bills. I was in high school at the time, and should have had more in my life. But the Super Bowl win meant a hell of a lot to me at the time, and probably (sadly) made my year in 1991. It is still fun sometimes to go back and watch some clips from those times, and that most exciting season for the G-Men. Here are some news clips from the week before that Super Bowl XXV:
