Some Obscure Facts That You May Not Have Known About Forrest Gump

I would say that Forrest Gump is one of my very favorite movies, if not the favorite.

I mean, it has everything. Humor. Drama. Action. History. Special effects. Emotional pull. Some messages that can be deciphered in between the lines, so to speak. Nostalgia. Certain points that force you to take some time out and make you think a little bit. And the acting was solid - particularly from Tom Hanks. I suspect that this was the movie that really helped people change their perceptions of him from a mostly comedic actor (although Philadelphia went a long way towards these ends as well), to one of the truly elite actors in his time with an incredibly wide range of talents.

Earlier this year, I was fortunate enough to visit Savannah, Georgia. It came as a surprise to me during that visit to learn that much of that movie was filmed right there in the city, including all of those scenes on the park bench.

Remember how amazing it seemed at the time, that this movie seemed to feature such historical figures from the past as President Kennedy, President Johnson, President Nixon, and John Lennon, among others, actually talking to Forrest using real footage? Nowadays, that would probably not make news at all. But back in 1994, it was a novel new idea, and this was the first major movie to feature this impressive effect! It added immeasurably to the movie, as well.

Overall, 1994 was a great year for movies. Personally, it was one of my favorites, probably along with 1999, another year that featured some incredible movie releases.

Yet, Forrest Gump remains among my very favorite movies of all time, and part of my fascination with Savannah, admittedly, was that it figured so prominently in the movie.

In any case, if you are a fan of that movie, like I am, then you will likely be interested in clicking on the link below to find out more of the facts from this movie. And the best part of it is that, for once, despite this being an Answers.com website, you can actually see all ten facts without having to go through and download a million pages, and a billion advertisements and annoying downloads, in order to do so! What a novel concept!
