Leading NASA Official Says Alien Life Will be Found Within 10 Years

I thought that this was very interesting, and definitely worth saving!

Surprisingly, life outside of this planet still seems like an improbable, if not an impossible, thought for some people. This, despite there being billions and billions of known stars and other galaxies, with surely countless billions, if not trillions, of planets likely within these.

Yet, this thought is not sobering enough for some people to shake them from the notion of human exceptionalism, this crazy idea that human beings are somehow special and destined to rule over this world, and to stand apart as the most intelligent (if intelligence is what it is) of all creatures.

To me, it is the very height of arrogance to assume that we are the best thing possible out there in this entire universe. As if our society, our global culture, is the very best of all possible things, and the best that we can do.

What a depressing thought.

Still, depressing or not, it is likely scientifically wrong to think that we are it in this universe, and that life does not exist outside of our planet. That, to me, seems as backwards as believing, as our ancestors did, that the Earth was flat, or that it was the center of the universe. Or, or that matter, that humans are so "exceptional" that God made humans in His image, and that all of the massive amount of evidence that we evolved over the course of millions and millions of years does not count for anything.

In short, it just does not make sense to any objective, intelligent individual without a specific agenda when looking at the overwhelming data.

Now, we do not have specific data yet to prove alien life, true. But we likely will, and soon.

How soon?

Well, according to one top NASA authority, within a decade!

How extraordinary would that be!

It is refreshing to see NASA making such bold proclamations, and seemingly having a strong sense of purpose again. After all, this is the organization that put a man on the moon, and got him safely back to Earth again. More than one man, actually. So, yes, it is nice, and frankly overdue, to see them with a clearly defined mission in the public eye.

Now, if they could just take Buzz Aldrin's advice as well, and get their ass to Mars!
