‘Mad Men’ Midseries Premiere Recap

Oh, I'm sure Don Draper pulled the same stunt with his award in episode "5G".

Okay, so it is the day after Easter. If you are one of the people that celebrated, here is hoping that it was a good one on your end.

Over here, it was an incredibly lazy, tired day. Perhaps the weather contributed, since it was somehow overcast, yet fairly mild generally. Or maybe the weather was not a factor. All that I know is that some people were commenting that it just felt like one of those lazy days and, indeed, that is what it was for us, perhaps especially for me. A lack of sleep surely contributed towards this feeling as well, however.

Woke up in the morning quite early, although I was really tempted to just get back into bed and sleep for a few hours more.

Instead, I got up and did some writing, which at least felt good, like I was accomplishing something (even though the desire to catch up on sleep would linger with me the rest of the day).

In any case, we went over the residence of my girlfriend's friends, who are like her family here in the United States. This we did after attending church services in Polish. Once again, of course, I hardly understood a word, although it was a fairly short service, and we arrived there late, in any case.

The lunch and dinner at her friend's place was fun. A lot of food - I mean a lot of food! - and good food, to boot! Some decent conversation, although I was feeling particularly low on energy, nodding off on the couch during the movies.

Again, it was just that kind of a day. Lazy.

We returned home in the early evening, and I spent a little bit of time online before taking a nap before work.

That said, I set the alarm for just before 10pm, so that I could watch the latest episode of Mad Men, as the final six episodes began to air again last night.

It was a decent episode, with Don continually seeing Rachel Katz everywhere. Rachel is, of course, the woman that it at least appeared Don fell in love with.

Then Joan and Peggy had it out in a surprising fashion, after both were treated like sex objects and generally not taken seriously during a presentation to a client. Joan takes a swipe at Peggy after Peggy suggests that Joan dresses like a slut, and Joan basically tells Peggy that she dresses like a little girl because she has to, and that she herself dresses like a sexy woman because she can. Peggy responds by saying that Joan has "filthy money" to fall back on. This hurts Joan, since she got her millions essentially through a deal with the partners to sleep with a client to obtain his business, making Joan feel a bit like a prostitute. They do not talk for the rest of the episode.\

Also, Ken gets fired, and it comes just one day after his wife urges him to leave the firm. He takes this as some kind of sign, and decides to focus on his writing. But the next thing that we know, he has been hired as the head of advertisement for one of the firm's clients, and promises to give them an extremely hard time, much to the chagrin of Roger and Pete.

A good, solid episode all the way around.

I wrote an article about if for Guardian Liberty Voice, which I will add the link to shortly.
