Ever wonder why people sounded so different in all of those old films, dating back to before the days of World War II?
This was something that I always kind of wondered about myself, and never more than in the last few years, for whatever reason.
Many old broadcasters and actors sounded very different than Americans today sound like, and there probably has to be some reason for it. My guess is that modern technology, which first brought radio and telephones, than television, and not the internet, to American living rooms and work places, perhaps serving to unify a new American accent.
