Is the Islamic State Truly Genocidal?

Another dated article, but I am publishing it today:

The Islamic State seemed to come from out of nowhere last year to sweep into power throughout much of northern Iraq and Syria.

Just like that, this hugely powerful organization simply took over and took power, and enriched themselves. They used that money to gain power, and their power kept on growing.

Even airstrikes did not really effectively get rid of them, as perhaps those methods had in similar situations in the past.

Many have compared the Islamic State to Al Qaeda or the Taliban, although it appears that they are very different in their own way.
