Last Morning of the Arizona Trip
Okay, so it is the final morning of this unique, western trip.
Once again, the weather played a factor yesterday. Quite bizarre weather was on hand again.
So far, the only day of this trip where we did not see rain, and even significant rain, for at least part of each day would be this one (so far) and the first one.
Admittedly, it was not what I was expecting from the trip out to Arizona, which I always assumed was basically a perpetually blazing desert. There were a few times, such as last night, when the rain was absolutely just pouring down, making our rather long drive from the Petrified Forest back down to Phoenix much, much longer.
In any case, we made it. Here we are this morning in Phoenix, and once again, it is hot and dry. No rain, no indication of rain, and palm trees and cactus everywhere. A different world from Flagstaff and northern Arizona, at least as we experienced them the last few days.
While driving last night, the temperature reading (according to our rental, anyway) read around 57 degrees Fahrenheit in Flagstaff at around 8:45 pm. By the time that we got to Phoenix a little less than two hours later, there was a temperature reading of 92 degrees Fahrenheit. Of course, the severe decline in altitude, from over 7,000 feet at Flagstaff to under 2,000 in Phoenix, surely has something to do with it.
Well, anyway, it is time to wrap this trip up now.
As usual, there is kind of a depression setting in, and this also marks the end of adventure and exploring new, exciting (to us, anyway) things, and back to the drudgery and routine of life in suburban New Jersey.
Sigh.
I will be writing much more on specifics of the trip over the next few days, so please stay tuned!
