I saw this video online, and although I hesitated, ultimately decided it needed to be shared.
This is real, this is what is happening. This is the world that we live in now. We have seen these attacks for many years now. We all remember the live footage of September 11th. Then the Madrid bombings. Then the London bombings. Now, this year, Paris a few times.
Here is a clip of people trying to escape Le Bataclan during the attacks.

I too hesitated to watch this clip, but wound up doing so. Despite the fact that the main story is obviously the carnage that was taking place inside Le Bataclan, I was mostly struck by comparatively trivial things as I watched this video: someone hanging on to a window balcony for dear life, some idiot repeatedly yelling "Qu'est-ce qui se passe??" from his window across the street (perhaps I'm being a tad harsh, but it was obvious that people had other things on their mind than filling him in), etc. I believe there was a puddle of blood near the door, it was hard to tell. All I know is that as nightmarish as this all is, the word "numb" is still the first one that comes to mind to describe how I'm feeling. All of this senseless violence and killing - the shootings that have become routine here in the States, terrorist attacks that are increasingly common and well organized, and of course all of the active military conflicts spanning the globe - it's so overwhelming that I find it becomes hard not to feel powerless and insignificant. In a world gone mad there's seemingly no limit to what one can get used to, for want of a less coarse way of phrasing it.
ReplyDeleteI actually was noticing many of those same exact things when I watched the video.
