ππ«π·⚽ On est les Champions ! ππ«π·⚽
France obviously impressed many people by winning the World Cup last year. But this was easily their most convincing win since taking that world championship last summer.
It took a while for France to score again after that, until Olivier Giroud got the second goal in the 68th minute. In the process, he became France's third highest goalscorer of all time. Suddenly, France was ahead, 2-0.
Yet, they were not through.
Kylian MbappΓ© added a third goal ten minutes later from a pass by Antoine Griezmann, to make it 3-0.
Griezmann got the fourth and final goal in the 84th minute, providing France with the oh, so comfortable 4-0 margin of victory.
Often times, France has not played consistently. They hardly looked the part of world champions in the matches that the team played following their World Cup championship run last summer. But they definitely looked the part last night!
France will face a tougher test when its Euro 2020 qualifying campaign resumes in June in Turkey. In addition to having a good team, Turkey is known as an intimidating place for road teams to play. I still like France's odds of prevailing, but I would be very surprised if Les Bleus were to win by more than two goals. For that matter, a draw wouldn't necessarily be a poor result, since I would think that will be their toughest match of the entire qualifying round.
ReplyDeleteYeah, we'll see. I was hardly trying to crown them as the same champions simply because they won one game convincingly. However, it was nice to see them finally win a game like that in an impressive manner, which we have not seen, I think, since the World Cup itself. Wasn't the final against Croatia the last time that they had scored four goals?
ReplyDeleteNo, they beat Moldova on the road 4-1 on Friday to open their qualifying campaign. :-) But point taken, they're looking sharp, even if the opposition for the time being is modest. In Malta yesterday, Spain beat Malta 2 to 0, which is surprising since on paper Malta has no business keeping that game so respectably close. So perhaps that helps put things in perspective.
