This used to be a bigger debate in the past than it has been in recent years. I remember John Madden and Pat Summerall often commenting on how much worse artificial turf is than natural grass, and how unforgiving it is.
Granted, there have been some improvements to artificial turf since then, both in terms of overall appearance, as well, I imagine, with a bit more give to reduce injuries. Still, it is often a poor substitute for natural turf.
Truth of the matter is that it should be more of an active debate even still. After all, it sure still seems like there are more injuries, and more serious injuries often times, at that.
