Every now and then, you find something that reminds you of some specific moment or chapter of your childhood.
It happened to me in a small way this past weekend. I was talking with a coworker as we were watching The Twilight Zone marathon at work. Seems like there's always a Twilight Zone marathon during the really big holidays, and it was a refreshing change from the news which, in it's own way, has been more eerie and horrifying than any fictional shows. In some respects, frankly, it feels like we are living in a Twilight Zone episode.
Anyway, there was one specific episode of The Twilight Zone that I remember seeing as a kid. It seemed like everyone in the family was warning me that this episode was supposed to be really scary. It was about a kid who is left home alone with his grandmother. She is supposed to be sick and in another room, but we keep hearing her calling to him throughout the show. He is scared of her and does not want to be alone with her in the house, yet his parents leave him with her that night. Eventually, of course, he goes in the room and - surprise, surprise! - she turns out to be a monster.
For years, I watched the original series and hoped to find the original episode, because the one I had seen was the "new" series of the 1980's, which was in color. Little did I know that Stephen King wrote that one, which meant it was not one of the episodes in the original series.
When I did a bit of research - it really did not take much, truth be told - I finally found that old episode. It surprised me that one of my favorite authors had written it, although it made quite a bit of sense after thinking about it.
Haven't watched it yet, although I intend to in a while. Still, it seemed like a good idea to share this particular one here, since it is a holiday weekend (well, the tail end of one, in any case).
Take a look and enjoy.
