NFL 2025 Week 8 Preview

NY Giants at Philadelphia Eagles - The G-Men earned a big win a couple of weeks ago against the Eagles. But that was then and this is now. The Eagles rebounded with a solid win at Minnesota, while the Giants lost a heartbreaker in a record fourth quarter collapse last weekend at Denver. Also, this one will be in Philly. That's really a tall order for Big Blue. My pick: Philly

NY Jets at Cincinnati - The Jets are 0-7, and are looking especially bad on offense. Meanwhile, the Bengals seem to have a quarterback who gives them a chance with Joe Flacco. Gang Green will win a game eventually (I think, anyway), but that win will not be in this game, most likely. My pick: Cincinnati

Chicago at Baltimore - The Ravens enjoyed a rest period with a bye week, and so should be well rested. That also provided them a chance to refocus and reorganize. That's the good news. The bad news is that the Bears come in as one of the hottest teams in the league, fostering an active four game win streak. However, expect the Ravens to come out swinging and to earn a win at home. My pick: Baltimore

San Francisco at Houston - Two teams that have more vulnerabilities heading into this game than I expected either to have. The Niners, once again, are plagued with a ton of injuries. And the Texans...well, they just have not been able to gain traction so far this season. But this game probably means a lot more to the Texans than to the 49ers, since the Colts remain red hot and are threatening to run away with the division. Houston has to win in order not to fall still more behind, perhaps hopelessly behind. Look for them to find a way and earn a big win. My pick: Houston

Cleveland at New England - The Browns absolutely blew out the Fins last weekend. But on the road in New England is another matter. The Patriots have been one of the biggest surprises so far this season. They should be able to earn a win in this one, which would be no surprise at all. My pick: New England

Miami a Atlanta - Boy, the Dolphins keep stunning me, looking worse and worse every week so far this season. I didn't figure them to rank among the elites this season, but I also certainly did not expect them to rank among the very worst teams in the league. Yet, here we are, and the Fins are 1-6. The Falcons are tough at home, and should earn a win in this one. My pick: Atlanta

Buffalo at Carolina - The Bills are well-rested. They have to go on the road, however, and take on the surging Panthers, who are tough at home. Still, expect the Bills to have worked out some of their recent issues. They should recover to be a playoff team this season, and that recovery begins today with a tough road win. My pick; Buffalo

Tampa Bay at New Orleans - The Bucs are one of the best teams so far this season. The Saints are on the other end of the spectrum. True, you never know what might happen and "on any given Sunday" and all of that. Still, the Bucs are clearly the better team and should be able to pick up a win today in this one. My pick: Tampa Bay

Dallas at Denver - Expect this to be a good game. The Cowboys may struggle on defense, but their offense remains one of the elites. Plus, they are coming off a huge and truly important win over a division rival last week. Then again, the Broncos earned  a historical and thrilling comeback win last weekend. Plus, Mile High remains a very tough place to play. Maybe the Cowboys can pull off an upset, but I will pick the Orange Crush in this one. My pick: Denver

Tennessee at Indianapolis - The Titans are one of the very worst teams in the league, while the Colts have the best overall record. Also, the Colts will host this game. Barring some seriously unforeseen circumstances, this one should be all Colts. My pick: Indianapolis

Sunday Night Football: Green Bay at Pittsburgh - Wow! Aaron Rodgers gets to play his old team. Two of the better teams in the league so far this season square off in what should be an intriguing match-up. The Steelers are very tough at home, however. Expect them to do what they have to do to pull off a win here in this one. My pick: Pittsburgh

Monday Night Football: Washington at Kansas City - This one looked like a more interesting match-up entering the season. But the Commanders just have not looked like the same elite team that they proved themselves to be last season, especially during their playoff run. Unless they find the old magic again - and quickly - a game at Arrowhead against Mahomes, Reid, and the Chiefs really feels like a bit too much. KC should win, and possibly in a romp. My pick: Kansas City
