The new NFL season already is up to Week 2.
It begins tonight in Buffalo, when the Bills host the Detroit Lions. Two teams which I figure should reach the playoffs this season.
Let's take a closer look:
Detroit Lions (1-0) at Buffalo Bills (1-0)
Highmark Stadium, Orchard Park, NY - 8:15 pm
Both of these teams won last week in close games.
For Josh Allen and the Bills, it was a back and forth affair against the Texans in Houston. Buffalo's offense had a very impressive day against that highly regarded Houston defense, producing more points than the Texans had allowed in years. Ultimately, the Bills managed to secure a close win, although it came down to the final seconds.
As for the Lions, they played a tough game which also went back and forth at home against the New Orleans Saints. It turned out to be the first (and so far, only) overtime game of this new season. Both teams scored TD's in OT, but the Saints gambled and went for the win on the road. That is the conventional logic, although it did not work last week. The Detroit defense held to ice the game, notching their first win of the new season.
Expect a lot of offense in this game. There are so many big names and huge talents on both sides, which have so much depth. So a lot of points should be scored.
That said, however, I do expect the Bills to win. Nor do I expect another thriller that goes into the final seconds. It seems to me more likely that the Bills will have this game under control and basically won by late in the third quarter or early in the fourth. Don't necessarily expect a blowout, but a comfortable win that does not go down to the final play or seconds.
