By now, if you still are a devout supporter of Trump, you are either extremely stubborn or, frankly, extremely stupid.
I mean, seriously, let's reflect: he has not kept any of his major campaign promises for either term except the over-the-top, theatrical crackdown on immigrants. Note that this does not mean "illegal immigrants" or "criminals," but just immigrants in general. He has shut down most immigrations, except for white South Africans, whom he has bent over backwards to make feel at home here in the United States. Beyond that, it has been all lies. He did not "drain the swamp," and has instead ushered in an unprecedented, never before seen level of out in the open corruption like the world has never seen before. He did not become the greatest jobs creating president in history (either term). He did not bring back jobs in particular to the rust belt or make the United States a manufacturing superpower as he promised to do. He did not build the wall and make Mexico pay for it. He did not build a national healthcare system that would be affordable and cover everyone. He did not pay off the national debt in eight years, and instead added something like 30% to the national debt, in large part to provide still more tax cuts and incentives to the very wealthiest and most privileges Americans. He did not lower the price of gas and groceries or get the economy working again. He did not make the United States a very respected world power and, in fact, has outright disgraced the United States, and Americans generally, with his disgusting behavior numerous times (unable to criticize Nazis and white supremacists, referring to dozens of other countries as "shithole nations," being laughed at literally to his face during a speech before the United Nations, flirting outright with the possibility of militarily taking over Greenland, starting an ill-advised war with Iran and then insulting allies before asking for their assistance, then insulting them again when they refused to participate in his war. He did not end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours, or even end it after nearly two years back in office. He did not keep his promise not to start any new endless wars for the United States. He did not release the Epstein Files and, in fact, has gone to such extraordinary lengths to prevent them from being released that it seems downright suspicious.
Okay, so we know what he has not done. Let's take a look at what he has done, and just since January of 2025 (which feels so long ago now). He went ahead with his ill-advised tariffs, which experts (and common sense) shows has pretty much hurt the economy and strongly contributed to inflation. He has destroyed traditional alliances, particularly with Europe, Canada, and Mexico. He has gotten most of the rest of the world to distrust and dislike the United States, especially with his war with Iran.
For the most part, most people no longer view the United States as a respected superpower. Many people view the United States as having gone rogue, and turned it's back on what actually made it a superpower. Namely, the strong alliances which it successfully fostered for many decades following the end of World War II. That is already pretty much ruined because of one man: Donald Trump. And he in turn was in power to do that damage because of one group of people: those who voted for him. Trump continues to do the maximum damage possible because of those tens of millions of people who support him. Some people are suggesting that this is the end of the United States as a superpower. And I, for one, believe that there is a case to be made for it.
Also, the damage that Trump has done to the country is not only restricted to our traditional alliances, or how we are perceived by the rest of the world. No, the cruelty that he has ushered in, his ability to get the very worst, the darkest of the character traits of Americans, will be a shameful chapter in American history. This chapter saw the rise of cruelty and greed and gluttony in full display, no longer even bothering to hide in shame. This chapter saw the rise of fascism and the clear fragility of democracy in decline. This chapter brought the United States closer to a civil war than anything that the country has seen since the first Civil War. And this chapter sure seems to be seeing the very wealthiest Americans creating a new feudal order for the 21st century, an economy of the few haves and the masses of have nots.
If you pretend not to see it or look the other way, or den that Donald Trump is ever worse than the dire predictions before he was elected (both times), than yes, you are the problem. You are what's wrong with this country. And yes, indeed, you're commitment to stupidity & stubbornness is indeed impressive.
Not to mention destructive.
