On this day in 1533, Francisco Pizarro arrived at Cuzco, in modern day Peru. Charles Mason & Jeremiah Dixon began surveying what would become the Mason-Dixon Line between Pennsylvania & Maryland on this day in 1763. In 1777 on this day, the Articles of Confederation were adopted by the thirteen colonies then still trying to gain independence from Great Britain. The first installment of "A Tale of Two Cities," the now iconic work by English novelist Charles Dickens, was published on this day in 1859. On this day in 1889, the last Emperor of Brazil (yes, the Americas officially had some emperors, and not just in Brazil) was deposed. In 1917 on this day, Georges Clemenceau became the French prime minister.
