In the year 3, General Tiberius's Triumph 13 General Tiberius' (later Emperor) triumphant procession through Rome after siege of Germany. On this day in 1776, British troops captured Fort Washington during the American Revolution. In 1885 on this day, Canadian rebel Louis Riel was executed for high treason. The United States and the Soviet Union established diplomatic relations for the first time on this day in 1933. On this day in 1988, Estonia's parliament declared the itself "sovereign," although it stopped short of declaringcomplete independence. In 2000 on this day, Bill Clinton became the first serving U.S. president to visit Communist Vietnam. On this day in 2004, a NASA unmanned "scramjet" (X-43A) reached a speed of nearly 10 times the speed of sound above the Pacific Ocean.

On this day in 1776 during the American Revolutionary War, British and Hessian troops took Fort Washington, New York. It marked one of biggest losses by US forces.
