South Africa 2024 Trip Day 1, Part 6: A Visit to the Union Buildings, Pretoria (September 26)

This was a picture (which I have since cropped) of the new South Africa flag of the post-apartheid era. I actually took this one at the apartheid museum, as this was the final display, if you will, of the museum, the symbol of the emergence of a "new South Africa."

One of the main places which I had wanted to visit in Pretoria were the Union Buildings, and the gardened terraces below, in front of the building.

Also, this is the place of the now famous, almost iconic, larger than life statue of the late Nelson Mandela.

This was our last stop in Pretoria, and for the tour overall.

Day one had been long, but it was not pretty much over.

Much like Johannesburg, Pretoria proved to be a bit of a disappointment to me. Like the bigger city of Jo'burg, the streets were often lined with trash (but not quite to the same degree), and there was that same level of chaos, with people jaywalking all over the place, and passing cars barely missing. And nobody apparently thinking it all strange.

Yet, there is a difference, because Pretoria has some real gems.

Truly beautiful spots worth visiting.
