Ever since my friend Rob Conn died, I have been doing a lot of thinking, and remembering those old times. Gotten in touch with a bunch of people whom I had not really heard from in many years. In some cases decades.
Then I did some digging around. There is a little picture book which I currently have, but which actually really belongs to my ex. She and I met at Bergen Community College, where we both met Rob as well as almost everyone else here in the pictures below. For quite some time now, I have wanted to make duplicates of these pictures, but never quite got around to it. If the death of people close to us ever has a silver lining, though, it is a renewed focus on trying to do some things which we previously simply assumed there would be plenty of time for, right?
So in that spirit, I am publishing these pictures from that wonderful Bergen era. Most, if not all, of these pictures are from 1995 or 1996. Both of those were wonderful years for me, and Bergen Community College played no small part in that. Here are those pictures, finally:
Pictures from our weekend gathering at High Point State Park on a Sunday in May, 1996 - probably either Sunday the 12th or Sunday the 19th. It was unseasonably hot for that time of year, well into the nineties if memory serves correctly.
A friend of mine was really struggling after the hike up the hill to the High Point monument. Again, it was unusually hot and, if I recall, a bit on the humid side.
Resting in the shade provided by the obelisk at High Point. This was at it's base, and we were all just trying to cool off. To the extreme right on the picture is my late friend Rob Conn, talking to me. I am wearing the white t-shirt. The other guy was a friend and, I recall, had one of the most unique chess games of anyone I have ever seen.
My then girlfriend (now ex-wife) and I at the top of the hill, close to the base of the obelisk at High Point State Park.
A picture of a bunch of us having fun. I believe this was at the home of my then girlfriend (now ex-wife) in Dumont, New Jersey. Probably late 1995. Not sure why one of my eyes is closed, making it appear that someone has just punched me.
Halloween party at Bergen Community College, October 27, 1995. We all dressed up as hicks for Halloween. Come to think of it, I might still look like a hick.
Halloween party at Bergen Community College, 1995. A bunch of us posing for a photo. There is a witch (don't remember who that is, truth be told), the Martian (again, not sure who that was), Condom Man (his name was Anthony), and then the rest of us.
Yet another picture from the Halloween party at BCC in October of '95. Think that we collectively won an award for our matching costumes, and that is what Jenn is holding (if memory serves correctly).
One of the field trips to Great Adventure, which I obviously was a part of. Tom is on the left, and Jim (or James) is on the right. Pointing was just one of the running jokes.
Not sure where exactly these pictures were taken. But if memory serves correctly, this was New Year's Eve 1995 into New Year's Day 1996.
The before and after pictures for BCC's participation in Habitat for Humanity in York, Pennsylvania.
Our day in Baltimore, which was less than one hour from York, on our very last day (the day of departure) from Habitat for Humanity:
BCC Semiformal (1995 or 1996):
