Autumn in the Adirondacks 2026

Always during this time of the year, I want to make a point of going north either to upstate New York or somewhere in New England, to enjoy the glorious colors of the fall season. To do some "leaf peeping" as it were.

Yet, I rarely actually manage to really do it. There are reasons for this, of course. Time constraints, not having enough vacation time stocked up. The logistics of making a relatively big trip - it would require a minimum of a couple of days, with at least one overnight stay somewhere - complicates matters as well. And increasingly as I grow older, fatigue.

However, I did manage to travel through some of upstate New York for this fall season.

Granted, it was not a trip entirely dedicated to enjoying the rich colors of the fall foliage. Mostly, I was on my way to somewhere else. Specifically, to Montréal, Québec.

Some people might say that figures, knowing that I have often visited Québec in the past.

True, but this was my first trip to anywhere in Québec province in something like seven years. That is a new record dating back to my first trip there as a child.

And yes, driving from New Jersey to Montréal, Québec generally means going through the Adirondacks. At least, it is the most direct route there.

While I did not get to spend a ton of time in the stunning Adirondacks during their peak of glory with the colors of autumn, there was a chance, here and there, to take some pictures while I was driving through yesterday.

So, of course, I did take some pictures.

It was not quite as sunny or spectacular as I had hoped. Still, this should provide a bit of a taste of the autumn colors in the Adirondacks. I had heard that it was peak season, although my guess is that it was the beginning of it, or that it might still be a few days away.

Who knows?

Anyway, below are some of the pictures which I took.

Enjoy.
