This was a very informative video. So it seemed worth sharing here.
It seems increasingly difficult to find decent, reliable, intelligent and objective sources of truth to find out a bit more about what's going on in the world. To gain something of a decent perspective. But Chris Hedges can almost always be relied upon to provide an unflinching, serious assessment of our realities, however grim they may be.
He does so again in this article, which this video provides the audio for, if you want to give it a listen. It comes very strongly recommended.
Hedges points out how politics in the United States has become so skewed, that the terms liberal and conservative have largely been rendered meaningless. To illustrate this point, he mentions how Democrat Kamala Harris seemed so intent on parading around Liz Cheney, daughter of former Republican Vice-President Dick Cheney, who left office with historically low approval ratings. Many people have since suggested that this was a bad move which might have backfired on the Harris campaign. Not sure that she would have won if she had not done it, but it surely did not help her cause, as she and her campaign apparently assumed it would.
Then he mentions one thing which a lot of people lose sight of, which sometimes includes myself. He talks about how "the attraction of Trump is that, although vile and buffoonish, he mocks the bankruptcy of the political charade."
Definitely an article worth taking the time to read. It helped me to understand how all of this came about, and the specific and maddening elements that seemed to just fall into place. And how all of this was probably inevitable, anyway. If not now, soon enough. If not Trump, then somebody else. That much I personally have been convinced of for a long time, dating back to my teenage years in the 1980's.
Below is a link to the article or, if you prefer, a video where you can listen to the article in it's entirety. Take a look. It's important:

The loss of basic democratic norms began long before Trump, which paved the road to an American totalitarianism. He is the symptom, not the disease.
