Here's another charming thing witnessed pretty much right away in this second Trump presidency.
The Spanish-language page for the White House has not been shut off. And it was done in typically passive de facto racist style, which Trump and his administration have come to be infamous for. Here is a little bit from the PBS article (see link below) covering this story:
The site — currently https://www.whitehouse.gov/es/ — now gives users an “Error 404” message. It also included a “Go Home” button that directed viewers to a page featuring a video montage of Trump in his first term and on the campaign trail. The button was later updated to read “Go To Home Page”.
So it included a "Go Home" button that clearly was not a mistake, and meant to convey a message. However, I heard (but have not yet personally confirmed) that they took down the "Go Home" option. Still, the Spanish-language page has been shut down, and remains shut down as of the writing of this blog entry on January 28, 2025. It would not surprise me, however. After all, Trump and his people have done this before. Remember how his campaign posted a video of a Trump supporter shouting "white power!" before they took it down after a few hours? This feels like it is in that same spirit.
As of my writing this, it has been just over a week and change since Trump took power once again. Already, it feels like he has been in power again for many weeks.
It's going to be a long four years.
Below is the link to the PBS article covering this story, and from which I obtained the quote describing what, specifically, was on the Spanish-language White House page. Take a look:
