NFL 2025 Week 8 Review

Philadelphia Eagles 38, NY Giants 20 -- Predictable results here. The G-Men had dominated the Eagles in a meaningful game just a couple of weeks earlier at MetLife Stadium. This time in Philly, the Eagles made sure that it was payback time. Philly dominated a game that was not even as close as the final score would suggest. A key injury to Big Blue running back Cam Skattebo will hurt the Giants offensively for quite a while. The G-Men, despite some improvements this season, fall to 2-6. Meanwhile, the Eagles recover from a two game slide with their second win in a row to improve to 6-2, once again ranking among the elites in the NFC. My pick: Accurate

NY Jets 39, Cincinnati 38 - Now this was a surprising result. Especially since Cincy seemed on the verge of blowing the game wide open a couple of times. They even held a 14-point lead at one point as late as the fourth quarter, seemingly having the game at hand. But Gang Green showed fight and resolve, and scored two touchdowns late, including one somewhat controversial two-pint conversion, to pull off a stunner in Cincy. The Jets earn their first win of the season to improve to 1-7, while the Bengals fall to 3-5 on the season... My pick: Inaccurate

Baltimore 30, Chicago 16 - The Ravens are much better than their 1-5 record coming into this game would suggest. And they proved that in this one, dominating the Bears and ending their four-game winning streak. They put together a solid game plan and executed it very well. So the Ravens finally start their recovery, improving to 2-5. Meanwhile, Chicago falls to 4-3 on the year.. My pick: Accurate

Houston 26, San Francisco 15 - The Texans really needed this one. And facing a depleted 49ers team, especially vulnerable on defense, they managed to get the job done and earn a solid win. They still have a long way to go, having dug themselves in an 0-3 start to the season, but have now won three of their last four games as they improve to 3-4. Meanwhile, the 49ers fall to 5-3 on the year. My pick: Accurate

New England 32, Cleveland 13 - This one felt like a game between two teams heading in opposite directions. The Patriots have struggled in recent seasons, but are recovering strongly with a highly impressive year thus far. Despite having played their most impressive game and earned a solid iwin the week earlier, the Browns were just completely overmatched in this one. New England improves to 6-2 on the year, while Cleveland falls to 2-6. My pick: Accurate

Miami 34, Atlanta 10 - That explosive Miami offense of recent seasons came back, at least for one game. They held onto the ball for just shy of 38 minutes. Tua Tagovailoa was incredible, completed 20 of 26 passes for 206 yards and four touchdown passes. More importantly, they won, and did so in dominant fashion. The Falcons surely have to feel stunned, like they were punched in the face (which in a way, they were). Miami snaps a major skid and improves to 2-6. Atlanta, meanwhile, falls to 3-4 on the year.. My pick: Inaccurate

Buffalo 40, Carolina 9 - If you're going to try to rebound from a bit of a skid, you might want to do it the way that the Bills managed to do it in this one. They never trailed and really took over the game in the second quarter, scoring two touchdowns to take a commanding 19-3 lead by halftime. They kept the pressure on the hometown Panthers in the second half, as well, even though Carolina had entered quite hot and surging. But Buffalo never left a doubt in this one, blowing Carolina away in front of their home fans. The Bills improve to 5-2, while the Panthers fall to 4-4. My pick: Accurate

Tampa Bay 23, New Orleans 3 - The Bucs have consistently been one of the best teams all season, while the Saints have consistently been one of the worst teams throughout this season. So these results were predictable. Tampa Bay held a 7-3 lead at halftime, and took over the game in the third quarter. The Bucs defense bent at times in terms of yards but did not break much when it came to points, particularly since the Saints were held to just a field goal. Tampa Bay improves to 6-2 while New Orleans falls to 1-7 on the year. My pick: Accurate

Denver 44, Dallas 24 - Truth be told, I expected the Cowboys to play a little better and be more competitive. But the defense let them down once again. The Broncos scored a whopping 44 points while containing the Dallas offense to a manageable 24. A convincing win, as the Broncos improve to 6-2 on the season. Dallas, meanwhile, falls to 3-4, and is still struggling to find any kind of consistency. My pick: Accurate

Indianapolis 38, Tennessee 14- No real surprise here, right? Did anyone really think that the Titans were going to pull off an upset over the red hot Colts? Indeed, Indy was all over the Titans, making short work of them. With the predictable win, the Colts maintain the best overall record in the league at 7-1, while the Titans fall to 1-7, tied for the worst record in the league.  My pick: Accurate

Sunday Night Football: Green Bay 35, Pittsburgh 25 -A solid match-up among two of the relative elite teams thus far this season. It seemed to me that the Steelers had the game under control in the first half and looked to be well on their way to a win. To their credit, however, the Packers took over in the second half, dominating and ultimately winning in a tough environment. Green Bay improves to 5-1-1 on the season, the best record in the NFC, while the Steelers fall to 4-3.  My pick: Inaccurate

Monday Night Football: Kansas City 28, Washington 7 - This game pretty much went as expected. The Commanders entered with a losing streak that everybody just expected would get extended when they visited Arrowhead. That's exactly what happened, as KC dominated. 432 yards to 260, and produced 26 first downs to just 14 for Washington. Also, the Chiefs hung onto the ball for over 34 minutes. Mahomes threw for nearly 300 yards and three touchdowns. So all of that leads to a predictable result, with the Chiefs winning in blowout fashion, improving to 5-3 on the season. The Commanders, meanwhile, drop their third straight and fall to 3-5 on the year. My pick: Accurate
