Magical Thinking & Failing To See Reality For What It Is Has Dominated Opposition to Trump

The Trump era in American history - which is obviously still very much going on as I write this - has been outrageous, depressing and, frankly, embarrassing to endure as an American. To have this arrogant moron, born with a silver spoon in his big mouth and to see people catering to his every whim, further inflating his already astonishingly oversized sense of entitlement, has been nothing short of sickening.

Yet to me, almost as obnoxious are the delusions of many who are opposed to Trump. People who allow their wishful thinking to overrule any sense of reality.

Remember when many of his detractors seemed almost sure that Trump would be indicted and locked up in prison. That smacked so much of wishful thinking, that it felt both outrageous and depressing that so many people actually seemed convinced that it was going to happen. I mean, come on. Let's be real for a minute: Trump has gotten away with things time and time again. A whole lifetime of getting away with things, frankly. He is extremely wealthy and so can afford a team of the best lawyers. So you know that nobody is ever going to actually sentence him to prison.

Also, even if theoretically he did go to prison, he has a dangerous cult following. You know that they would riot in the streets before seeing their beloved Dear Leader actually held to account for his crimes.

Those fantasies by those opposed to Trump were not restricted to fantasies that he would actually see himself in prison, either. Some were sure that he was going to resign. Still others - many others - were convinced that he would surely be impeached and removed from office.

For such measures to actually work and remove someone like Trump from office, it would require some serious Republican support. I mean, seriously, do you see a sizable number of Republicans - the de facto MAGA/Trump party at this point - actually doing that?

If so, wake up. Reality is knocking.

There are still others. I always said that this man was going to run for a third term, a fourth term, as much as people would allow him to get. Right now, it seems like he might be there for well beyond this, his second term. If you think otherwise, if you seriously think that something as minor as the law will stop him, I suspect that you have not been paying close enough attention and/or are not being entirely honest with yourself.

Make no mistake: Trump will run again in 2028. And regardless of the low poll numbers, you better believe that he will have a chance of winning and, even more certain, that he will claim victory. Will claim election fraud if he finds himself even in slight trouble.

Still another fantasy that many who do not like Trump seem to have is a certainty that his health is failing. Some people are absolutely convinced that he is just about on his death bed.

Listen: this man is the President of the United States. Like it or not, he is. That means that he has access to the very best medical team available. They monitor everything, and will make sure that he is very well taken care of. Granted, he does not take the best care of himself. Clearly eats way too much, and is just generally not the picture of health that he has claimed himself to be in the past.

That said, he is not dying. People have been "sure" that he was going to prison. They were "sure" that he was going to be held accountable for his crimes, "sure" that he would be impeached and removed from office. "Sure" that he would be disqualified from running for office again, "sure" that he was going to lose in each election that he has been a part of. People have been "sure" that Americans would wake up and realize just how bad this guy has been and continues to be for this country. "Sure" that the people in power would not allow him to keep getting away with bad behavior. Now, many are "sure" that he is on the verge of death.

Let me be as clear on this point as possible: he is not in good health, and mentally not well. But he continues to do what he has always been exceptional at all of his life: self-preservation. He is not about to die, not about to resign or be impeached. In fact, I will say it again: Trump will be running for the White House, yet again, come 2028.

It's time to stop fantasizing about a magical end to this nightmare era in American history, and face things head on. That begins by not fantasizing about how nice it would be if this or that happened and he is finally relegated to the filthiest dustbins of history, and to recognize that he is not going anywhere. He's in the White House again, and this time he means to stay for a long, long time.

They’re SURE Trump has only DAYS to live
