Trump's, Lies, Lack of Shame & Accountability Are the Reasons Why He Remains the Real "Teflon President"

This is a picture of a magnet that was being sold at Strand's Book Store in New York City a few years ago. No, I did not buy it, but I liked it and took a picture, which I am sharing here now.

Recently, Donald Trump simply walked away after being asked a tough question regarding the Iran conflict.

Remember how he has and continues to insist that the war was already won? That Iran's capabilities are basically already finished?

Well, more and more people are asking the same, frankly obvious question. If this war has already been won, then why are we still in it? Why are they still fighting, regularly launching attacks on neighboring countries?

Indeed, that is what people keep asking. And in typical fashion, Trump did not bother trying to give a definitive answer to a difficult question.

Nope. Instead, he simply walked away.

Trump answered the first question, claiming that everything was going great. But when pressed a bit further, he just walked off.

Here is the account, according to a recent article published in The Atlanta Black Star News (see link below):

When asked directly last Friday on the White House lawn what he meant when said the war was militarily won in Iran, Trump replied, “Oh, I think we won. … From a military standpoint, they are finished.”

But when the follow-up came — asking how long the conflict would actually continue — Trump turned away mid-question and walked off, leaving the gap between his over-confidence and the reality hanging in the air.

While walking away might not always be his go to approach, not answering or providing any clarity, much less illumination, on serious matters is vintage Trump.

It occurred to me that this is probably the reason why this guy never gets pinned down by any kind of controversy or failure. He just does not have any embarrassment, and so nothing really qualifies as such a low point that even Trump shows signs of feeling compromised.

Seriously, think about it. Any other politician, if faced with the glaringly obvious gap between what he promised as a candidate versus the reality once in office, loses support. But Trump just avoids responsibility, or lies, claiming huge success. When you have a guy like that, how can you possibly pin him down? Especially when no matter what he actually says or does, or what the facts in the case are, you just know this guy will continue to receive unconditional, unquestioning support from his loyal base of followers?

When you try to get him on things which he promised but did not deliver on - and there are many of them - he just dismisses it or acts like another question altogether was asked. He shamelessly lies and distorts things. So when, for example, the record shows that he did not deliver on campaign promises from either 2016 or 2024, like building a wall and making Mexico pay for it, or building a national healthcare system which would be affordable and would cover everyone, or paying off the national debt in eight years, or making the United States a respected world power, or being the greatest job creating president in history, or lowering the price of gas and groceries and reigning in inflation, or releasing the Epstein Files, or ending the war in Ukraine, or not getting the United States involved in any more foreign wars, he simply avoids answering, or goes on a childish tantrum, or regales the listener with how supposedly accomplished and historically great he and his administration are. That under him, the United States has entered a "golden era."

His supporters claim to be superpatriots. They wave the flag and have attempted to monopolize the very idea of being patriotic to being a Trump supporter. To them, anyone who even questions Trump in any way is unpatriotic and/or un-American. Some of them, surely, are well-meaning and think that indeed, supporting this president is the height of patriotism. However, when there is absolutely no accountability, when his supporters allow him to lie and deceive and avoid any and all tough questions every single time, they are actually doing a disservice to the entire country. Of course, they never see it that way. But the rest of the country - indeed the rest of the world - can plainly see this.

Trump may be criticized for not bothering to learn some important aspects of the office he now holds. Yet he has clearly learned one lesson, which he implements again and again and again, to the detriment of the country and it's reputation the world over. And this is the lesson which he obviously has mastered: refuse to take responsibility and either refuse to give any answers (like with his actual role in the Epstein files) or lie, making yourself look like a hero (like when he claims premature victory in Iran, or how gas prices are now $1.99 per gallon in parts of the country). These are obvious lies, demonstrably lies. Yet, nobody can pin him down and, no matter what, his base of support never erodes, regardless of what he does or how much harm it does, even to them.

So often has King Con Don done this, that nobody is surprised anymore. We are used to him not giving substantive answers and being held to account afterwards. We are used to his media manipulation, the propaganda coming out of his White House. We are used to his militantly stupid and stupidly militant band of supporters - the Mindless MAGA Moron cult - continuing to give him their unconditional support no matter what he says or does, and no matter what the reality in the country reflects.

In fact, we have grown so used to this, that some people now are voicing something which I have long felt: why bother asking Trump any questions, when we know that he will not answer them directly or truthfully?

From the same article (see link below) regarding Trump simply walking away mid-question (from a FOX News reporter, no less):

Viewers reacted with disbelief. Chris Mattias asked, “Why even ask Donald questions, he lies. Every answer is a lie.”

Another critic on X added, “If the war is truly ‘won’, the public would expect a clear timeline for de-escalation. If the war is not over, then the administration owes the country a candid assessment of what comes next.”

A third observer pointed to the disconnect between Trump’s confidence and the avoidance that followed. “Donald Trump declaring victory while avoiding the timeline question raises eyebrows. Saying ‘we won’ but not clarifying the endgame leaves uncertainty. Moments like this create more questions than answers. The situation clearly isn’t as simple as it’s being presented.”

Obviously, nothing is as simple as Trump tries to portray it.

Yet, this is what to expect. We cannot realistically assume that anything will ever change, even slightly, so long as his loyal base of support continues to give him their unconditional, unquestioning support, as they have done now for well over a decade. After all, they have shown no sign of doing anything differently, regardless of what he does. So why would that magically change now?

Which then leads to the obvious question: why do we even bother asking our president any real or substantive question. I mean, we all already know what he will not give an honest answer, one way or another. Worse still, he will suffer absolutely no consequences for not answering, or for not taking any responsibility whatsoever, and he knows it.

This has become so entrenched that it has become routine. In fact, I believe that it defines the Trump presidency. Just lie or distort things or even simply do not bother answering a question. Nothing bad will happen. Nothing bad enough to compromise his hold on power, anyway.

If there is one thing which Trump clearly has learned along the way, especially since his political rise, this is the lesson. Just pretend that you are doing a great job and dismiss any criticism as unfair or unpatriotic or as "fake news." Your base will literally need no more convincing than that.

What dark times we live in.
