Today is Holi - a Spring Holiday in India

Happy Holi Day!

Okay, that was a poor attempt at humor, but it actually is a holiday in India.

Holi (होली) is spring holiday that is celebrated throughout India, but especially in northern India. It is a Hindu tradition, and is known as the "festival of colors."

Like with Easter in the Christian tradition, the date of this holiday varies according to the religious calendar. It symbolizes the triumph of good over evil, and trumpets in, if you will, the arrival of spring. Presumably, spring arrives a bit earlier in India, generally known as a hot country, than it does here in the the northeastern portion of the North American continent.
