Another terrorist attack yesterday in Europe, and once again, it was a vehicle (a van this time) that plowed through a crowded street filled with tourists in a popular destination in Barcelona, Spain.
The estimates are that 13 people were killed. Some of the video that has come out is truly horrifying, including some video that shows several people lying motionless on the streets just moments after the attack occurred.
As of right now while I write this, the driver is still at large, although five people were apparently thwarted from another terrorist attack near Barcelona. Also, the image of the man who rented the van was publicly released.
Very quickly, some used this attack to score political points, in particular American President Donald Trump.
However, this is a tragedy first and foremost, with more people killed, and about 100 more were injured. Some of them surely will never fully recover, probably physically and mentally.
All of this feels like insanity. When people suggest that the world is going crazy, this is exactly what they are talking about.
ISIS claimed responsibility, and who knows what happens from here. Maybe there will be increased military strikes, or perhaps even a larger war will break out. Certainly, I cannot claim to know where this latest terrorist attack will lead.
However, before anything else, I just wanted to express my sorrow at yet another senseless loss of life, and still more young men (assuming this is a man) who was tricked into doing the unforgivable because he thinks that he is doing God's work, and that he will be rewarded with a bunch of virgins up in heaven in the afterlife.
So, I just wanted to take a moment to reflect on these events, and extend solidarity to the families and friends of the victims, as well as sincere well wishes to the survivors, many of whom are injured and will only begin the long and painful process of recovery.
