Last few times that I was in Europe, some of the pictures which I personally felt were among the most attractive had nothing to do with monuments or famous artworks or even tranquil scenes from the countryside.
No, indeed, some of my very favorite pictures were of rain slicked cobblestone streets in European cities. The wetter and shinier these streets were, the better the pictures tended to come out. Some of the best ones were of Krakow and Bratislava, because I happened to visit those cities when they got some rain. That, or course, offered me the opportunity to get such pictures.
Well, it rained in Paris a couple of times during this last trip. But it was particularly pretty early on the morning of Wednesday, May 28th, just a little less than one week ago as I write this (at 10:15 PM, or 22:15, if you prefer) on the evening of Monday, June 2nd.
My first flight out of Paris and to Lisbon was for the afternoon. So I really wanted to use that last morning to visit Paris one last time. I had long wanted to wake up very early in the morning and visit the Eiffel Tower, specifically, well before the crowds arrived. And it so happened that I not only finally did that on Wednesday, but that the rain (and it also was quite cool, even chilly) felt like it offered particularly attractive photos.
Among some of the best were pictures of Parisian streets right after I left my hotel (the Hôtel du Roussillon, located on the Rue Paulin Méry, just a couple of blocks away from the Place d'Italie. Daybreak was beginning to show, yet it was still mostly dark. It made the cobbled streets appear particularly attractive, at least in my opinion. So I took a moment or two to take some pictures. It feels to me that they came out great. That these were the types of pictures which I had really kind of wanted to get from this last trip.
