A few evenings ago, when the temperatures were a little less stifling, I went for a walk in the old neighborhood.
During that walk, I saw these plants right next to the school. That got me to thinking that it likely was the kids who planted this stuff, which seems like a good idea to me. It is my belief that students at schools should get some experience planting both flowers and some veggies and fruits, if at all possible. You know, so they get an understanding early on both of what natural growth feels like (the work involved) and what fresh produce tastes like. Also, so they understand that some of the stuff that they pass by, perhaps without so much as a glance or a thought, actually comes from somewhere. Just to understand how the world works a little bit more.
Anyway, I was impressed (assuming, again, that these kids from the school surely took an active role in planting this stuff). Thought it would be worth taking a few pictures and then explaining my own viewpoints on the matter.
Enjoy.
