Below is an MSN article which points out that Trump is 'beginning to fail in plain sight' before the entire country and world.
My own personal belief that he has actually been failing - and in more ways than one - for a hell of a lot longer than that. Nor do I think that it takes a particularly sharp eye or piercing intellect to see it. All it takes is to actually pay attention to what he says, what he does, and how he conducts himself.
This is not a champion of the people. He has always been an elitist. And he never gave any indication whatsoever that he really actually cares about anything or anyone other than himself. That tens of millions of Americans somehow failed to understand that simple and, frankly, obvious fact is an indictment of the absence of critical thinking skills here in this country which has led us to this point.
Of course, today is a big day. Election day. Trump himself is not officially on the ballot. Yet his policies and, yes, his failures feel like what this particular election is all about. I am not sure whether or not there is going to be a "blue tsunami" as so many people are predicting. But what I do know is that this country has been in serious decline for a long time. It just has not ben honest with itself about that fact. When you elect a union buster who endlessly feeds the military industrial complex and begins killing the Fairness Doctrine and escalates the borrowing, like Reagan did, that is one major step down. When you then have the Democrats get their own answer to Reagan with Bill Clinton, and he pushes the Democrats to the right, repealing Glass-Steagall and privatizing prisons and expanding NATO so that it is right on the border with Russia and he guts what remains of the Fairness Doctrine, that is yet another step down. When you elect an elitist with a lack of qualifications but a loud and proud false sense of entitlement like George W. Bush, and you see that his presidency is riddled with one corporate scandal after another, who starts a war based on a false premise (the Weapons of Mass Destruction, or WMD's) and who runs the economy to the ground, but still gets two terms in office and sees his approval ratings jump up to positive numbers just months after what can only be described as a failed presidency, that is yet another step. When you elect an elitist, wanna be dictator like Donald Trump, however, you have reached whole new depths. He lies so regularly and relentlessly that it is almost impossible to keep up, to the point where people stop even paying attention - both his supporters and his detractors - and when you see the wealthiest, most privileged Americans get still more tax breaks and incentive and you see the military industrial complex getting more money than ever before and you see international alliances breaking apart because nobody trusts the United States under Trump, and still this guy somehow has something like 30% to 35% approval ratings, than you know we have lost any real standards.
Then Americans act shocked and stunned when everything in the country seems to be falling apart?
Whatever it's flaws - and let's not kid ourselves that there were not many - the United States used to e a functioning country and enjoyed a privileged position within the world community. I am not entirely sure when the country lost it's way. Sometimes, I think it was Nixon. Certainly the decline began to be noticeable under Reagan, who got away with not one but two major scandals which put Watergate to shame, yet he was still beloved and supported by a vast majority of Americans, virtually without question. He got away with so much that people nicknamed him the "Teflon President." We seem to have lost our appetite for holding prominent politicians responsible for their crimes right around that time, particularly when it comes to the White House. Subsequent presidents like Clinton and Bush were given the unofficial title of the "Real Teflon President" because of how many scandals they were able to get away with. Obama scrapped habeas corpus, a Constitutional right, spied on some allies, and killed people illegally with drone strikes, and people on the left often refer to him as the greatest president in history. And let's not even get into King Con Don, who seems to make headlines on a daily basis with all news lows and scandals and blatant shows of corruption beyond counting. Each of those represented a step down. My own belief is that each step down made the next steps down that much easier. It took decades, but we have descended to new lows on a regular basis. I no longer even think that we necessarily bottomed out with Trump. Indeed, we might have someone worse down the horizon. And not too far down the horizon, at that.
Personally, I would love to see all of this finally come to an end. But I believe that things will likely grow worse before they get better, something which I suspect Trump assures us of. And even if we get past these Trump years, we have to come clear and cope with our history and with the seriousness of our problems before we actually begin to seriously address them and right the course this nation is on. I hope that I am wrong, that we will suddenly get out of this and start heading in a better, more hopeful direction soon and easily. It is just that it is very, very difficult to believe that things will be that simple. We can no longer afford to fool ourselves into a false sense of security or immunity from the limitations of our own collective national decisions.
So no, I do not know for sure what will happen on this Election Day, or the next major election in two years when hopefully, we can finally, finally put this nightmare of the Trump presidency and the Mindless MAGA Moron Cult domination of our national politics behind us.
Let us see what happens.
