The old button from the Environmental Club days which I just happened to find on Earth Day! It is a little beat up (particularly the ends of the ribbon), but no worse for the wear, I think. And it is one of the few items that I have left from those days, so it carries a lot of great memories for me! Nothing Changes Until You Do!

Here is a picture of a very similar logo, with the same message, that was on the t-shirt that I purchased from the BCC Environmental Club and, if memory serves me correctly, may even have helped to make. There were a few projects like that which club members, myself included, were regularly involved with. It has been so long, however, that I no longer recall specifically if I actually helped to make these or not, although I do believe so, since I remember seeing the process of the t-shirts being dyed. In any case, I loved this t-shirt, and have kept it ever since, even if I do not regularly wear it. Since it was part of my experience with the BCC Environmental Club days, as well as more generally having an environmental theme, it seemed appropriate to share it here.

There is a meeting in Bonn this month that focuses on environmental regulations and policies.

Essentially, the meeting is designed to develop the groundwork for the much bigger 21st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) in Paris to be held later this year, the preparations for which have taken years. Both meetings in Bonn and Paris are designed to advance the stated objective of keeping average temperatures rising due to global warming/climate change to within 2 degrees Fahrenheit.

They will also address ways in which to solidly hold nations accountable for meeting their stated agreements in reducing carbon emissions and other measures designed to fight climate change.

Here, according to the webpage Road to Paris 2015 – a crucial year for climate change (https://www.munichre.com/en/group/focus/climate-change/viewpoints/road-to-paris/index.html) is the stated purpose of the Bonn meeting:

The conference is expected to become an important intermediate meeting looking forward to Paris. In Bonn, climate change pledges will be consolidated from industry states and from developing states. Industry states are requested to communicate their individual mitigation objectives within the INDC mechanism (intended nationally determined contributions), whereas developing states are urged to reduce carbon emissions according to their capacities within the NAMA mechanism (nationally appropriate mitigation actions).

Furthermore, specific options are on the table designed to force the hand of big carbon polluters to reduce their emissions, which emphasizes the impact on their wallet:

"Setting a price for each ton of carbon that emitters produce is meant to encourage companies to adopt cleaner technologies and shift away from using fossil fuels, primarily coal. ... The U.N. and World Bank have been strong advocates for policies that shift the responsibility to polluters to pay for carbon emissions."
