Yesterday, the focus was on horrific reports coming from North Korea, of abuses of human rights so grotesque, that the world hasn't seen anything like it since the last days of the second World War.
So, I wanted to switch gears a little bit, and go with a lighter subject, at least for the time being. There are other blog entries that I am working on, and these, too, tend to dwell on darker matters. But, I guess the winter is getting to me, and it was my day off and, also, I had a bit of writer's block. That said, it was time to do something a little different, and so, this is a subject that is obviously a lot lighter and fluffier.
If you are not a fan or not interested, please accept my apologies, and you can expect a return to regular stuff in the very near future. But for today, speculation on a sports franchise's change of uniforms and log.
I don't know why all of the Florida teams seem to change their uniforms so frequently. The Dolphins, Buccaneers, and Jaguars had made a habit of changing their uniforms quite often in recent years. Sometimes, the changes have been subtle. Other times, the changes are a lot more obvious.
Both the Miami Dolphins and the Jacksonville Jaguars changed their looks quite a bit last season. The Jaguars altered their logo a bit, and changed their uniforms to all black, although their helmets are a strange mix of gold and black now. The Dolphins took it a step further, changing their logos outright, and altering (or updating if you prefer) their uniforms.
Now, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are changing their logos and uniforms, as well. It will be the first time since 1997 that Tampa Bay will outright change their logos and helmets.
Maybe the new uniforms and logo will be more reminiscent of the old Bucs uniforms and log, when they had the creamsickle colors.
Somehow, growing up, I was a big fan of those uniforms. They fascinated me, and although the Giants and Jets were my number 1 and number 2, respectively, the Bucs were my third favorite team. The colors, and the sunshine that they played in every week, while it was cold and gray up here in the north, just seemed so....well, Florida, to me!
I would mind if they went back towards those kinds of uniforms again, which I think were way better than the boring uniforms that they had since then, with the red and pewter and black. That made them look a lot like the 49ers, and they did not stand out as much as they had when they had that Buccaneer on their helmets, and the bright orange jerseys.
Hopefully, they won't screw this one up. A return to the old uniforms would be welcome by me, personally. They looked like no other team back then, and I still think those uniforms looked cool, and obviously distinctive.
But, since that seems unlikely, I am going to guess that they may go to red helmets, seeing as though only two teams in the league are left with red helmets: Washington and Kansas City. Used to be that it was more common a color for teams to have, with Atlanta and Buffalo also having red helmets. But these days, not so much, apparently.
In any case, let's see what they do with them this time around. Hopefully, it will be worth it!
