So, yes, we know that a lot of things in our society are unnaturally, perhaps superficially beautiful, made to look appealing to make an impression, but that this often carries not a small amount of embellishment, or make up.
This is the case with Hollywood actors and actresses, of course, which most of us are already aware of.
However, one inaccessible level of attractiveness that perhaps many of us do not think of as readily would be adult movie stars, particularly women.
Earlier today, I found this link that contrasted what adult movie stars look like before the make-up is applied, and afterwards. The results are quite stark!
Frankly, when you look at the pictures right next to one another, you could be forgiven for assuming that they are pictures of two different people. Certainly at first glance, a number of these women look almost unrecognizable to anyone who only has seen them in the movies that they star in for the outside world.
When you look a little bit more closely, however, you begin to see the resemblances (particularly around the eyes, which is where I would recommend starting). The transformation, then, is truly astonishing! How different a woman can look with a makeover like this!
It also seems to me that there is something to be said about our own portrayals of physical perfection, having the perfect image, the perfect face, the perfect figure. There was a similar thing not that long ago that I saw, where an attractive woman was modeled and, after some significant digital touching up, was made virtually unrecognizable, but looked to one and all surely like a typical model these days.
And we wonder why so many "regular" people feel that they pale by comparison, and feel self-conscious about their own bodies?
We are only seeing the finished product after heavy professional makeovers of different styles in both cases. To put it another way, we are not seeing the real thing. Kurt Vonnegut once said of adult movies that they are impossibly accommodating fantasies, and indeed, he seems to have a point. In more ways than one, these women represent in their professional careers (and let us not mistake it for anything but that) a standard or image that seems quite literally impossible to attain naturally. Perhaps some day, we will have plastic surgeons and other beauty workers of some sort or another make these kinds of looks a reality. For now, they are simply unattainable and, frankly, unrealistic.
Yet, how many magazines and television shows and such out there are, to varying degrees of subtlety, pushing this kind of image upon us, upon our society?
So, let us remember that the reality is often seemingly quite boring compared with the fantasy that these ladies are fostering and playing out, each in their own way. There should be reminders more frequently that all of this is, indeed, just a fantasy. That the world is not made to be as perfect as models on the one hand, or as perfectly accommodating as adult movie stars are on the other. Neither represents reality.
I included the names of each of these women (I do not know if these are all their movie names, or if perhaps there are some real names included - I swear that I am not actually familiar enough with adult movie content to know such things!) down below, just in case the Answers website, which usually gives me a lot of headaches, acts up and does not work for you. Most likely, you can see this version of "before and after" pictures online, these days.
