Okay, so, I do not remember such a level of fatigue and resignation following a snowstorm, the way that we had after yesterday's storm.
The response seemed very half-assed.
The roads, at least the local roads, were not plowed very thoroughly, and when I went out there in the late afternoon/early evening to clear off the cars, I was one of the very few people doing so. Worse still, when I went out to leave for work late at night, most of the cars parked at the complex were still covered in snow, which surely had frozen by that point due to the frigid temperatures.
People just seem tired of this winter.
The thing is, we have had worse. Really, we have. There have been winters with far more snow - including just last winter! In fact, we have seen quite a few winters with more snowstorms, and more overall snow (in this area, anyway, to say nothing of New England or Buffalo).
Also, we have seen cold temperatures very comparable to the ones seen and felt this winter.
But the mixture of the two this winter was particularly annoying, as was the fact that these winter storms seemed to come within a couple of days of one another. Just when you fully recover from one, you have to brace for another one. And in the meantime, we get truly frigid temperatures, to assure that whatever fell freezes, and becomes a threat as black ice when walking or driving.
I happened to check the weather yesterday at Savannah, where we visited last summer. The high was 82 degrees, and it was beautiful there, weather-wise.
In the meantime, we were freezing our butts off almost a week into March, and wondering when there would be real signs of spring.
That's not all that surprising, although the general fatigue and lack of spirit to clear cars and roads after yesterday's storms actually did seem a bit surprising to me. After all, by this point this winter, we are seasoned veterans with clearing out from snowstorms, even though you would not know it from the response.
Also, Governor Christie, in a case of very bad timing, is proposing as significant cut in funding for snow removal for 2016.
Way to go, Governor!
At this point, everyone just seems ready to see spring ushered in, already!
