Have to make another quick blog entry for the preview of Week 3 in NFL action again.
So here goes:
NY Jets at Tampa Bay - The winless Jets go on the road to face the undefeated Bucs. It feels like Gang Green are on again, off again. They were impressive but fell short in Week 1, but then got destroyed against the Bills last weekend. Expect them to do some things, probably in the first half. But the Bucs should prove to be too much in the end. My pick: Tampa Bay
Las Vegas at Washington - At home and coming off a disappointing loss, I like Washington's tough defense to crack down on Las Vegas and earn a solid win. My pick: Washington
Atlanta at Carolina - The Panthers already look like they are heading towards a disastrous season, while the Falcons should feel like they can contend within this division. Atlanta should be able to pull this one off here. My pick: Atlanta
Houston at Jax - The Texans suffered their first loss against Tampa Bay last weekend. Now they head back on the road, but face a relatively weak opponent. Yet, this is an important divisional game. Expect the Texans to iron out all of the wrinkles and come up with a solid victory in this one. Yet, the Jaguars might provide a surprisingly tough challenge, simply because of familiarity. My pick: Houston
Green Bay at Cleveland - The Packers look very good, getting off to a quick 2-0 start. They have not yet been too seriously challenged. Frankly, it's difficult to imagine that the Browns will be the ones to provide that too tough challenge to the Pack in this one. My pick: Green Bay
Indianapolis at Tennessee - The Colts are looking exceptional to this point. They go on the road against a division rival, but should be able to earn a win here. My pick: Indianapolis
LA Rams at Philadelphia - A rematch of the memorable playoff battle between these two franchises last January. Both are undefeated, so this is a battle of unbeatens. The Eagles looked more vulnerable than I expected them to look so far this season. The Rams may be able to expose that and compromise Philly's chances. This should be a tough, tight game, and I suspect it could go either way. Still, home field advantage helps the Eagles, and should allow them to pull this one out. My pick: Philly
Pittsburgh at New England - This used to be one of the best rivalries in the sport. These teams faced each other in important playoff meetings multiple times in the nineties, 2000's, and 2010's. Now, both teams have fallen on harder times. Yet, it feels like the Pats fell on harder times. That fact should allow the Steelers to sneak past New England in this one. My pick: Pittsburgh
Cincinnati at Minnesota - The undefeated Bengals will face a very tough challenge up in Minnesota this weekend. They still might be able to pull this one off, but it sure will not be easy. In fact, I suspect the Vikings will have just enough to get past Cincy in this one. My pick: Minnesota
Denver at LA Chargers - The Bolts host the Broncos in a battle of potential playoff contenders in this one. The Broncos lost a heartbreaker in Indy last weekend. But I suspect that the unbeaten Chargers should be a bit much for them here in this one. My pick: LA Chargers
New Orleans at Seattle - The Seahawks still feel like an unknown factor so far this season. However, at home and facing the likely lowly Saints, they should at the very least be able to pull this one off. My pick: Seattle
Dallas at Chicago - The 'Boys seem to be, once again, an up and down kind of a team. The best version of them ranks among the relative elite teams. But then they have letdowns, as well. Still, I suspect that they are the better of these two teams, and thus should be able to pull off the win. My pick: Dallas
Arizona at San Francisco - A very tough NFC West showdown between two of the three remaining unbeaten teams within the division, which may be the best division in the league. With the Rams facing a tough challenge this weekend in Philly, the winner of this game could be all alone at the top of the NFC West when the dust from this weekend in the NFL settles. My pick: San Francisco
Sunday Night Football: Kansas City at NY Giants - As a fan of Big Blue, I would love to predict that they will pull off a stunning upset. That sounds weird when you are talking about two winless teams in Week 3. But of course, the Chiefs are not your typical winless team. They lost a tough one against a solid division rival in a game played in South America for Week One, and then lost to the defending Super Bowl champs in a rematch last weekend. So you have to figure that KC is a pretty solid team. And they should be able to expose the weaknesses that the Giants have shown, perhaps particularly that O-line, as usual. My pick: Kansas City
Monday Night Football - Detroit at Baltimore - Wow, this could possibly be a Super Bowl preview. The Lions look to be tough again, while the Ravens are pretty much always tough, aren't they? Both teams suffered disappointing losses to open the season, and then won last weekend. Neither teams wants to drop to 1-2, but someone surely will. Expect the Ravens to pull this one off right at the end. My pick: Baltimore
