President Trump recently visited Hawaii before going out on his Asian trip, and something rather funny happened there.
Many of the anti-Trump locals, remembering that Trump was the main force behind the whole ridiculous birther thing, which was an obvious attempt to discredit President Obama's legitimacy as President, outright insinuating that he was illegitimate.
Quite a few people speculated that it was a racist reaction, and the fact that so many opponents of Obama latched on to that (and many still are unable to let it go), as well as suggestions that he was a secret Muslim, or that he sympathized with terrorists, all seem to reinforce the notion that there were indeed racist tendencies behind these doubts. After all, these differences were not over political differences of opinions, or opposition to some specific piece of legislation that President Obama had forwarded, or anything.
Instead, this kind of opposition was simply to suggest that he was illegitimate, simply because they did not like him, and could not beat him in elections.
Now, let me state one thing: I also was opposed to much of what President Obama did and represented. Frankly, I was not taken into the whole spirit of people who got carried away with how great the guy was, but I also did not take the birthers and allegations that he was some secret Muslim seriously, either. In other words, they seemed to suggest that he could not possibly be a "real American." My own differences with Obama were more along the line of his policies, and how friendly he seemed to be with Wall Street elites, and how much the pro-corporate agenda was advanced during his stay in the Oval Office.
The focus on trying to delegitimize him as the elected leader of the land was particularly despicable in this regard. And that is perhaps especially true given that Donald Trump himself lost the popular vote, but squeaked tight wins in three key states to win the White House, and then lied about having won in a landslide, when he really lost the popular vote by nearly three million votes.
Of course, we all know that Trump is obsessed with ratings and wants to be popular and loved. And we also know that he always, always wants to be the center of attention, come what may. It almost seems like it does not matter to him whether the headlines are good or bad, so long as he is making them.
Well, so be it. But at least let's get a good laugh at his idiocy, and his tendency to take himself very, very seriously. He has done plenty of stupid things in the public eye, and the perfect response to all of that, and his inflated sense of self, is to poke fun at him. The perfect response to his efforts to delegitimize President Obama is to delegitimize him, and remind him that some people see right through him, that we recognize him as the fake president that he really is.
That is why this story was so great, and seemed to me fitting to share here, as a bunch of locals from Hawaii reminded President Trump of his own efforts at advancing fake news, being the main sponsor of the whole birther movement. Frankly, I am not sure that Trump even is fully aware the Hawaii is not a foreign country, or that Kenya is. This is, after all, a man of obviously limited intelligence, and no thoughtfulness at all.
So, let's share this story, and let us all remember just how classless and fake Trump really is, and always will be!
