Sadly, we are mourning the death of yet another great musician.
Chuck Mosley, formerly of the band Faith No More, died yesterday of addiction-related reasons, despite a long period of sobriety for Mosley.
It was shocking to learn about this death, because Faith No More was actually the first band that my brother and I saw when we both decided to start going to concerts of our own accord (in other words, not including the concerts that my parents, and especially my father, kind of dragged us to when younger). Faith No More was opening for Metallica and Guns 'N Roses on their 1992 tour, and although they were not admittedly the main band that we were there for, it was a pleasure to see them. Also, my brother and I both found their set to be quite memorable, although we also both agreed that the audience at Giants Stadium on that hot, late July evening, did not give Faith No More the level of respect that they deserved. I remember being hugely into their breakout album, "The Real Thing."
The last song that the band performed when we saw them was "Epic," which was the most famous track from that album. That was the only time that the audience really responded to them, rising to their feet and showing their appreciation for that one last song by the band.
Chuck Mosley was not a part of the band by the time that they released that album, nor was he there for that show when we saw them. He had been the frontman for the band for only one album prior to that, which was "Introduce Yourself," which I am admittedly not familiar with.
Still, his death is sad, particularly since it was related to substance abuse after what had been quite a long period of having successfully fought back against addiction.
