Beverly Hills was the main focal point of this trip. It was where the event we were working was located, and it was where our hotel was located.
So I decided one day, after working the early shift, to do some exploring of Beverly Hills itself.
Everyone knows that this place has a reputation for being fabulously wealthy. It seems that everyone wants to live here. Indeed, this place almost seems to epitomize success. If you live in one of those grand mansions here, you have made it. No doubt about it, right?
Yet, there is another side to this town that I had noticed. And it was not just here, but the Los Angeles area more generally. It seemed to me that living side by side next to these incredible displays of wealth and power were homeless people, and real poverty and destitution. Often times, I saw these things - these two very different realities - within just a few blocks of one another. Somehow, it seemed that they were living very separate lives, despite being in such close proximity.
Sometimes, when I would see someone - particularly a young guy - driving around in a fancy car, I could not help but wonder just what they did, or how they managed to get the money that they clearly had. This was particularly true when I saw such people driving around during a weekday, and wondering how it was that they were free to drive around instead of being at work somewhere.
Anyway, I spent one afternoon exploring Beverly Hills, walking along Beverly Drive and to Lily Pond, then to some of the wealthy homes nearby, before circling back to the parks (where again, there are significant numbers of homeless people) and then to Rodeo Drive, which was right next to the park. I could see why this particular street was so famous, although it felt to me just a bit overrated. Still, it was nice, and interesting to visit.
Below are the pictures which I took on that afternoon.
Enjoy.
