Yes, a long decade of conservative rule under Stephen Harper has finally come to an end, as Canada will now be led by Justin Trudeau, the son of former Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau.

Trudeau's Liberal party won the election in a landslide, winning with 54% of the vote, compared to just 29% for Harper's Conservative Party.

Prime Minister-designate Trudeau had some words for his supporters in Montreal following the election victory last night:

“More than a hundred years ago a great prime minister, Wilfrid Laurier, talked about sunny ways, he knew that politics can be a positive force and that is the message Canadians sent today. Sunny ways, my friends, sunny ways, this is what positive politics can do.”

"We beat fear with hope. We beat cynicism with hard work. We beat negative, divisive politics with a positive vision that brings Canadians together."

Trudeau and the Liberal Party will now rule with a majority government. Trudeau will be the second youngest prime minister in Canadian history, and the first to follow a parent into the highest office in Canada.
