Some Key Information on the Global Overpopulation Crisis

So, someone left me this comment recently for my book review on Dan Brown's Inferno (from May 25, 2013), in which I spoke a little bit about the issue that Dan Brown addresses in the book - that of overpopulation. The person who sent the note, Achim Wolf from Germany, wrote a letter with some information that certainly seemed useful, and so instead of it being relegated to one of the comments for people to possibly happen upon, I thought it best to give this message an entire post, in order to maximize the publicity for this all-important, yet far too often overlooked, issue that affects us all, more and more over time.

To anyone paying attention, this is not some side issue. In fact, I do not think it a stretch to suggest, as I have suggested before, that this is the biggest problem facing us all. Not Obamacare here in the United States, which is set to take effect in a few days. Not the manufactured budget crisis in Washington, or the myriad political battles that dominate the headlines and become the flavor of the moment. Not whoever occupies the highest office on whatever nation we reside in. This outweighs even global terrorism, or chemical weapons use in Syria, or pretty much any other issue, no matter how serious. Why? Because the human population is growing at an increasingly rapid pace, and this is already putting a severe drain on our limited resources (the fact that they are limited is a simple fact that far too many among us opt to conveniently forget), and the already limited open land in the world is continually being compromised. When you observe the facts, and draw a conclusion of just how bad the scenario will be if it continues on this pace, then the urgency of action simply cannot be understated. It begins with education, with informing yourself, and Achim Wolf has provided some useful links to help you to do this.

I thank and applaud Achim Wolf's efforts not only for adding the comments to that post, but also for providing useful links that provide good information on this all-important subject.

I have taken the liberty of adding the links below Achim Wolf's message, for easier access to them. That includes an articles from Robert Sanders of Berkeley University, with some information that is, frankly, alarming, to anyone who chooses to learn mroe on this subject. Again, this is the most pressing issue, a real crisis in the making (if it's not there already!) that we will have to confront at some point in the future, and probably sooner rather than later, whether we like it or not!

So, without further ado, here is the letter that he wrote:

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Scientists warn of a rapid collapse of the Earth's ecosystem.
The ecological balance is under threat: climate change, population growth and environmental degradation could lead even in this century an irreversible collapse of the global ecosystem.

The cardinal reason is the sudden development of human population that threatens to devour all our resources.

Since 21 August there is therefore a petition at change.org for the introduction of global birth-controls, also in HINDI!

If you want to support this or publish it on your website, here is the link:

Please continue to spread the link or the petition as possible to all interested people, organisations etc.

Thank you and best regards
Achim Wolf, Germany
