So, the rumor has been circulating for a long, long time now, that a new movie version of Stephen King's The Stand is being made. It has been going around for years, this rumor. But now, apparently, there are more clues, and perhaps, concrete ones.
The latest is that The Stand will not be one movie, but four. To anyone familiar with Stephen King and his movies, this will remind people of the television miniseries movie that was released in 1994, and had a star-studded cast, consisting of Rob Lowe, Molly Ringwald, Gary Sinese, Laura San Giacomo, Ed Harris, Stephen King himself, as well as having quite a few other notable actors and actresses.
The problem with that series? It was cheesy as hell! I mean, don't get me wrong: I actually enjoyed it, and have watched it a few times since then.
However, it is not a great interpretation of a very good book, probably the defining work for Stephen King. It is my favorite from him, and frankly, the miniseries does not do it justice.
Here's the thing, though: I am not sure that any movie will actually do it justice. Maybe this one would not be so dark, and maybe they will not alter so many aspects of the book to fit into the movie, like they did with the miniseries.
One way or the other, however, it should be interesting, at the very least, to see this movie made, and see what direction they take with it.
As a fan of Stephen King, I will look forward to the new movie, and without trying to say this too loudly, my hope is that it will be better than the miniseries was!
In any case, here is the link to the more detailed story about the new movie of The Stand:
