NFL Week 10 Review

NY Jets 20, Pittsburgh Steelers 13 - So, I was wrong, and I am glad! The Jets finally produced a victory, which amounted to a huge upset. Pittsburgh played surprisingly flat almost all game, save for that ridiculous long bomb touchdown pass in the final minutes that kept their chances alive, and which was the one play that the Jets never should have allowed! But the Jets held on for only their second win of this season, but far and away their most impressive and needed win!

San Francisco 49ers 27, New Orleans Saints 24 (OT) - A back and forth game. The 49ers were dominating, and then the Saints came alive, taking the lead with very little time left in the fourth quarter. But the Niners came back to kick a tying field goal to force overtime and then, well into overtime, the 49ers clinched the win with a field goal.

Baltimore Ravens 21, Tennessee Titans 7 - Pretty much exactly the way you would figure this game would go. A sluggish Ravens team trying to shake a recent slump, and a weak and accommodating Titans team unable to cope.

Atlanta Falcons 27, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17 - Another back and forth game, but the Falcons are the better team. They finally took over in the end, when it matters most, and clinched a much needed win. This, coupled with the Saints losing today, keeps the Falcons still very much relevant in the NFC South, at least for now.

Dallas Cowboys 31, Jacksonville Jaguars 17 - Another game that went pretty much the way most people would have expected it to. The Cowboys needed a win desperately, following two straight losses. They got it against a very weak Jax franchise that ranks among the worst in the league right now.

Kansas City Chiefs 17, Buffalo Bills 13 - A tough game, but the Chiefs are very tough. After a dismal 0-2 start, Kansas City has now won six of their last seven, and are looking very much like a playoff caliber team yet again. This may have been for a playoff spot, and both teams knew it. The Chiefs earned a big road win with this one.

Detroit Lions 20, Miami Dolphins 16 - The Detroit Lions are looking very good this season. Miami has been pretty tough, as well, so you knew this was going to be a tough one either way. The Dolphins were winning for most of the contest, and it looked like they might pull off a big road win, until the Lions got a touchdown very late to clinch the come from behind win. It is worth noting how strong the Lions have been in close games so far this season!

Arizona Cardinals 31, St. Louis Rams 14 - A tougher game for the Cardinals than the score indicated, but they managed to win a valuable division game against a team that had scored upsets against both the 49ers and the Seahawks. As a result, the Cardinals have a two game lead over second place Seattle, and a three game lead over third place San Francisco, after nine games. But with Carson Palmer injured, Arizona still has to be concerned.

Seattle Seahawks 38, NY Giants 17 - For a while, this was a really close contest. I was actually beginning to believe that they had a chance. Then, Seattle just took over, and the G-Men could no longer do anything right, as the Seahawks pulled away in the end, and this looked like a blowout, although it was a close game for most of the way. Solid win for Seattle, and a tough loss for the Giants.

Denver Broncos 41, Oakland Raiders 17 - The Broncos got right back to rolling with an easy victory that highlighted how dominant they can be. Still, this was the Raiders, and not the Patriots or Colts or Chiefs that they beat on the road. I am starting to wonder about the Raiders. Looking at their schedule, there really are no obvious wins or anything. They will have some relatively weak teams, like the Rams and the Bills, that they could possibly win. But there is a possibility, although not necessarily a probability, that the Raiders could go winless.

Green Bay Packers 55, Chicago Bears 14 - What is it about the Chicago Bears that make the Packers go wild, and run up the score in blowout wins? On the flip side, what is it about the Green bay Packers that make the Bears just not competitive in the least in these contests? The Bears really needed this win, but you just kind of knew that they were not going to get it. This is the oldest rivalry in the NFL, and thus a storied rivalry. But the Bears have not been holding their end of the bargain in recent years, so it usually is much like this game: anticlimactic. Rodgers played like what he is: one of the best quarterbacks in the league, with six touchdown passes - a personal best for him! His quarterback rating was simply off the charts!
